When a Community Finds a Space to Breathe
“What I value most is knowing there is a place where I can relax, feel heard, and simply enjoy the moment.”
The Moment They Were Experiencing
The residents of Sunrise come from a wide variety of life experiences. Some enjoy an active social life within the community. Others face challenges related to health, mobility, or the natural changes that accompany aging. Each person arrives with their own story, memories, joys, and concerns.
Amid daily routines, medical appointments, life transitions, and personal challenges, there is something many people quietly seek: moments of calm, connection, and emotional well-being. Moments where they can feel seen, heard, and valued.
What They Were Looking For
Residents participate in activities that enrich their daily lives and help them stay active and connected. Yet beyond the activities themselves, there is a deeper longing. They seek spaces where they can relax. Spaces where they can set aside their worries for a while. Spaces where they can connect with others, with themselves, and with whatever brings them peace. They long for experiences that nourish not only the body, but also the heart and spirit.
The Journey
Over the past several years, the weekly sessions have become a cherished gathering place for many residents. Through gentle movement, guided reflection, music, relaxation, and mindful presence, each session offers an opportunity to slow down and return to the present moment. It is not simply about participating in an activity. It is about feeling supported. It is about sharing a conversation, listening to a meaningful song, moving the body with kindness, and finding a moment of tranquility during the day.
Gradually, the sessions have become an important part of community life, residents look forward to each gathering with enthusiasm, relationships deepen, trust grows, and an environment is created where every person can participate exactly as they are.
What Changed
Over time, residents experience a greater sense of connection and well-being. Many express feeling more relaxed after the sessions. Others share how deeply they appreciate the moments of reflection, the music, or the opportunity to connect with their neighbors in a different way. Participation becomes more natural, and the sense of community continues to strengthen.
What began as a series of activities continues to evolve into an experience of support, presence, and enrichment for the entire community. More than an activity, it becomes a space where people can feel valued, supported, and at peace.
“We are truly grateful to have Maritta as part of our community. She brings a unique and meaningful presence through her gentle movement sessions, guided reflection, Healing with Music, and relaxation activities. Her approach goes beyond programming; she creates moments of peace, connection, and emotional well-being for our residents.
Maritta has worked with our community for the past three years, and throughout that time she has proven to be incredibly consistent and dependable. She has a natural gift for helping people feel seen, heard, and valued. Her calming energy and compassionate nature allow residents to feel comfortable participating, regardless of their abilities.
She is not only an exceptional facilitator but also a wonderful listener and a true friend to those who work with her.
Our residents eagerly look forward to her visits and frequently express how positively her sessions impact their mood, stress levels, and overall sense of inner peace.
Her dedication, kindness, and love for others shine through in everything she does.”
Maritta’s Reflection
Over the years, I have learned that the most meaningful experiences do not always come from extraordinary events. Often, they arise from simple moments of shared presence, a genuine conversation, a conscious breath, a song that awakens a memory, or a smile that reminds us we belong.
It is a privilege to serve this community and witness how, gathering after gathering, a space is strengthened where people can feel safe, valued, and connected because when a person feels truly seen and heard, something profound begins to blossom and when that happens within a community, everyone benefits.
